  • For Community Service Day in May we give large baskets filled with snacks for all public school teachers in Darke County.

On National Community Service Day, May 19, members of the Darke county Retired Teachers brought snacks to their local meeting.

These snacks were then placed in baskets, also provided by members to be distributed to the teaching staff at each individual building. Each retiring teacher also was presented with a special snack bag to honor them for their years of service.

Approximately 700 snacks and 22 baskets were donated.

This activity allows many members of the association to participate in an activity which benefits the community. This is the fifth year for this event; it is popular with the members

  • A large number of our members do volunteer work in the community; we keep a record of the hours they donate.  We record the hours they give us and send the information to ORTA.
  • We sponsor a scholarship for a senior at a local high school entering the field of education.  This year we are for the second time offering two scholarships for $400 each.
  •
  • We provide new greeting cards for the residents of Rest Haven nursing home to mail to their family and friends
